Radiation Protection computing tools Gérald Dumont HSE/RP

Timetable & Definitions  RAISIN: Radiological risk areas inventory  TREC: Traceability of Radioactive Equipment at Cern  IMPACT: Intervention Management Planning and Activity Coordination Tool  Others useful computing tools EDMS Radiation Protection – Experts training – March 20162

RAISIN: (1)  Central database for the radiation areas classifications at CERN  Inludes Work Sector classifications  Classifications given w/o beam  Keep the history  Provide data to other systems: EDH, IMPACT, GIS Portal, etc.  Other Radiation risks also registered by area:  Radioactive material  Radioactive source  X-ray generator  Activation risk  Contamination risk EDMS Radiation Protection – Experts training – March 20163

RAISIN: (2)  Main functionalities:  « RP classifications » List of all areas with radiation risks (~2560)  « RP Building classification » List of all building containing radiation risks (~440)  « Search all Areas » Search engine dedicated to find any building / floor or room and check:  the presence of radiation risk  the name of the RP contact  other RP attributes (justifications, usage, comments, etc)  « RP Contact List viewer » Lists of the RP contacts by zone (visibility: public – safety officers) EDMS Radiation Protection – Experts training – March  Building w/ radiation risks visible in GIS PortalGIS Portal  LHC classification visible in the website  EDH, IMPACT, SOS and AIS Role linked with RAISIN  New! Classification visible in TREC  Foreseen! Classification visible in GIS Portal

TREC:  Application dedicated to the traceability of radiological measurements of equipment & waste  Included in the concept of Buffer Zones  Main features:  Declaration of potential radioactive material  Registration of radiological measurements  Link with the equipment db (INFOR)  Declaration and acceptation of Radioactive waste  Pre-generation of EDH documents:  Transport Requests  New! Storage requests  New! Shipping requests EDMS Radiation Protection – Experts training – March 20165

IMPACT:  IMPACT = declaration, coordination and planning of activities => key aspects for ALARA & RP follow-up  Information channel: IMPACT widely used at CERN and in all beam facilities  Dedicated RP/ALARA features:  RP approval in Limited-Stay Radiation Area  Radiation risk assessment in the activities, including doses estimations  DIMR form in IMPACT (one DIMR for one or several activities)  IMPACT linked with Operational Dosimetry  Operational and Personal doses accessible in IMPACT: ‘Radiation Dose Reports’  New! radiography testing declared in IMPACT EDMS Radiation Protection – Experts training – March 20166

Others useful RP computing tools  RP Websites:  Dosimetry:  PS complex, CTF3 and Meyrin site:  SPS, LHC and Prevessin site:  Sources:  Shipping:  High quality pictures and videos may avoid visits in Radiation Areas:  Layout database:   Safety officers lists:  SOS:  AIS roles: EDMS Radiation Protection – Experts training – March 20167
