Child Development Kierra Hall & Danielle Taylor

The Meaning Of Physical Development What is physical development? Physical development has to do with the growth and development of a child’s body and the acquisition of motor skills.

What Is Motor Skills? Motor Skills is the ability to perform complex muscle and nerve acts that produce movement; fine motor skills are small movements like writing and tying shoes, gross motor skills are large movements like walking and kicking

Motor Skills Ands The Two Basic Subcategories Gross Motor Skills ( Large Motor Skills) deal with the use of large muscles of the arms, legs, and back and are needed for such activities as sitting, walking, running, catching, kicking and throwing a ball, climbing, etc. Fine Manipulative Skills ( Small Motor Skills) deals with the use of fine muscles of the hands and fingers, which are necessary for such activities as for pointing, writing, drawing, buttoning up, using a knife and fork, typing, and cutting out pictures.

Large Motor Skills

“Look Mommy, Catch” As you see the little girl handing her mother the green ball, she is learning how to throw over her head, or at her mother.

Yep, “This Me.” As you look at this photo you can see we have a group of sassy ballerina girl's in pink. Doing this age period, 4 year old likes to jump, run and turn quick corners. They also can hop several times in a row.

Hi Ya! Now look at the young fighting warrior in red and black. As you can imagine the smile on her parent face, she is learning how to alternate with her feet by kicking and jumping in the air.

Peek-a-Boo! Now you know she’s having fun in a cautious way with the help of her father, by holding on to her as she plays on the jungle gym.

You Can’t Catch Me!!! The best feeling ever is to get out and ride a bike and enjoy. But as you can see in this picture, this is not an ordinary bike; it’s a tricycle that teaches new beginners how to ride a bike.

Yeah, Like A Boss. In this picture a happy 4 year old is focusing on building a tower with red and blue bricks. You see in his future, he might become and construction worker never know.

O yeah, Cutting In Action! As you see the young preschooler using small motor skills by using scissors, she is learning how to cut out shapes of different sizes.

Thuggin, Look At My Grill In this picture a preschooler is using her small motor skills by brushing her teeth and getting ready for a day at preschool

I got It Mama In this picture you can see the little boy using home ethics by setting a table.

Oh Yeah As you can see the young preschooler concentrating on drawing a picture of animals, she’s no longer using stick figures as her drawings, but using multiplies shapes of different sizes.

I HATE YOU!!! As you can see the temper tantrum boy is crying because he can’t have his way. He’s is going through the stages that we called Emotional Developments.

Yeah, I Got That Whip These to four year olds are in Toy-R-Us and enjoying the time away from their parents by riding in this pink escalade

Yeah, Chillin Focusing Before watching TV at the age of 4, he must seek approval from mommy or daddy to watch his favorite episode
