Effects of Sexualization in Advertisements
Presentation transcript:

This advertisement is for McDonalds happy meals and is intended for young children. The ad draws the viewer directly to the center of the page, focusing on the character Shrek. It seems that the ad is trying to sell food via pop culture. McDonalds and the creators of Shrek will most definitely benefit from this ad because Shrek gets advertisement and McDonald sells more happy meals and they both make billions of dollars. On the other hand children will not benefit from this ad because they will be allured to consume unhealthy food and become saturated in pop culture..

This advertisement is for the Skechers shoe company. Skechers is targeting this ad towards a young female audience. This ad is using the singer Brandy to promote their product. When young girls look at this ad, especially fans of Brandy I would assume they would say “if Brandy wears Skechers I want to wear Skechers too.” / /

This Nike ad is targeting young pre-teen athletic boys. When I look at this photo my eyes automatically are drawn towards the Nike basketball. After I notice the basketball my eyes close in on the two boys playing basketball; I can’t help but notice how perfectly positioned they are. Then I realize both their clothing's and shoes are Nike. This ad could negatively affect young males, making them believe that expensive brands and shoes will make them better athletes.

This is a advertisement for Nintendo GameCube. Obviously the game being promoted is “Bratz Diamondz.” The word “Bratz” is the focal point of the ad and is written in huge bold letters. I understand that the Brat products are targeted towards younger girls between the ages of three and ten, which I find ridicules. The Brat characters are very inappropriately dresses, with too much make-up on. This advertisement can be very harmful to the young girls buying this product because it gives them a false sense of identity and can cause them to grow up way to fast.

This ad could be found in various fashion and teen magazines. Dolce & Gabbana is a high-end fashion company who is advertising their clothes….or are they selling sex? If it wasn’t for their company name at the bottom of this advertisement one might assume they were in the mist of a pornographic advertisement. Images such as this could be very harmful for teen girls. It could make them feel negatively about their own body image or make them feel like they need to be engaged in sexual activates themselves.
