What Jesus teaches about right behaviour (5:17-48) 2) Adultery and lust (5:27-30)  Righteousness in our sexual thinking “…the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes, and the boasting of what he has and does...” (1 John 2:15) “You shall not covet your neighbour’s house etc…” (Exod.20:17) “If your eyes are good your whole body will be full of light.” (Mt.6:22)  Hungering for sexual righteousness The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32) “Whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart.”

2) Adultery and lust, marriage and divorce (5:27-32)  Hungering for sexual righteousness a) A high view of marriage (Heb.13:4) Marriage should be honoured by all, and the marriage bed kept pure… b) A high view of singleness and virginity (1 Cor.7:1-2) It is good for a man not to marry. But since there is so much immorality each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband c ) A high view of sexuality (Gen.2:24-25) A man shall leave his parents, be united to his wife, & become one flesh. d) What about “Gay marriage”? (Matt.19:4-5) “At the beginning the Creator made them male and female…” e) What about divorce? (Matt.5:31-32; 19:3-9) “Anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery” (19:9) The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)
