On Demand Writing  On Demand purpose: to write something over a short period of time, much like real world writing. On Demand can include writing to prompts or authentic texts (passage based).  To get a Distinguished in On Demand at 5 th grade, a writer has to:  Effectively communicate in writing  Maintain audience and purpose  Develop ideas using supporting detail  Write a good sentence and paragraph  Use transition words  Maintain appropriate voice/tone for intended audience  Use correct grammar and mechanics.

PC WRITING CONTINUUM Grade Level Expectations  Kindergarten—2 sentences focused on one topic  1 st —4-sentence paragraph (with support)  2 nd —5-sentence paragraph independently  3 rd —5 paragraph essay  4 th —respond to on-demand prompts using 5-paragraph essay  5 th —proficiently respond to stand-alone and passage based on-demand prompts using 5-paragraph essay

PBW Example (Cont.)  A, B, C sentence becomes a Perfect Paragraph  Each detail becomes a separate sentence. Over the weekend, my family and I went to the park. I played on the swings with my little sister until she was tuckered out. I also played soccer with some friends. The best part was the wonderful picnic my mom packed! Going to the park with my family is always a great time!
