Chapter 6 Review History

Israelites Monotheism- The belief of one God The Mesopotamians believe in many gods (such as the moon, sun, and the winds). The Bible said that God made a covenant (special agreement). There are still Jews today, and they read the story of the Exodusters.

Phoenicians They live in a narrow strip of land that is now the coastal areas of Lebanon and northern Israel. They were consisted on city-states like, Byblos They became a center for commerce for trade The Phoenicians borrow from the Egyptians, and then trade

Lydia They introduced their very first coin in the 600’s B.C. Barter means a form of exchange in which people pay for goods. Some Lydians “cheat”, or don’t do fair, and shave off the electrum on the coin. In the 500s B.C., Lydia also became a center for trade ( Like Phoenicia).

Persian Cyrus was born in 590 B.C. In 539 B.C., the Persians took over many empires (Example: Babylonia). Cyrus the Great, was a kind ruler, he lets the Jews go back to their homes. He had a standing army (well paid). He died in 530 B.C.
