BY CONNOR MCCALLION Presentation Techniques

I have analysed many presenters and the many different techniques they use while presenting their shows. Today I will be talking about The differences and similarities between Jimmy Fallon and Graham Norton and how they present their shows.

Graham Norton Graham Norton presents his own show (The Graham Norton Show) focusing on people, trends, stories and the aspects of celebrity culture that interest him most, featuring celebrity chat, eccentric stories and characters, and home-grown weirdness from the great British viewing public.

Verbal techniques Graham speaks in a very fast and energetic way and is always very funny. He is always making jokes with his guests and being very upbeat, this keeps the audience engaged and entertained. He doesn’t use any catchphrases but has a distinct Irish accent.

Visual Techniques He dresses in a very smart manner for ‘The Graham Norton Show’. He always wears suits, as do his guests. Norton usually sits back in his chair, and this further gives the show a very casual and ‘laid back’ kind of feel to it. It also makes his guests feel a little more comfortable. He has great body language as he is always very involved in the conversation, this makes his guests feel as they are being listened to and appreciated.

The show is filmed in a BBC studio in front of a live audience. The show will display photos and videos on a TV behind Graham, but for the viewers at home, the photo/video will consume the whole screen. The target audience for this show would be fans of the guests and anyone who enjoys watching chat shows.

Jimmy Fallon Jimmy Fallon currently hosts The Tonight Show. Prior to The Tonight Show, Fallon was known as a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1998 to 2004, and the host of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon from 2009 to Jimmy took over The Tonight Show in 2014.

Verbal Techniques Jimmy speaks in a very calm and laid back way and is always very funny and energetic. Like Graham, he is always making jokes with his guests and being very upbeat. This is very appropriate for the audience as it keeps them entertained and engaged. He doesn’t use any catchphrases.

Visual Techniques Jimmy always dresses in a very smart manner (like Graham Norton), as he always wears a suit. He sits at a desk and his guests sit on a chair beside him. He is always very energetic and has a great body language and never makes his guests feel uncomfortable (unless he is trying to). He is always cracking jokes to make the audience more interested and keep them entertained.

The Tonight Show is recorded in front of a live audience at the Rockefeller Centre in New York City and airs on NBC. There is also a YouTube channel for the show where they upload previews for the newest show before they come out, and the interviews and games that Jimmy plays with his guests after the episodes release. The target audience for this show would be fans of Jimmy Fallon and also fans of the many celebrity guests Jimmy has on every week.

Jimmy is great as his show not only contains interviews with the most popular celebrities, but he also has many games he plays with his guests and sometimes even funny skits like ‘Real People, Fake Arms’
