Innovation Park

George Mason University Institute for Biomedical Innovation George Mason is Virginia’s largest public research university. Institute for Biomedical Innovation is a 75,000-square-foot research facility with CAP/CLIA Compliant Clinical Proteomics Laboratory, the first in the USA dedicated to proteomics translational research. Protein Microarray and Molecular Characterization Laboratory generates protein arrays to measure hundreds of proteins and post- translationally modified proteins from a limited number of cells. Mass Spectrometry Laboratory uses specialized chromatography, electrophoresis, and cell fractionation systems to separate and analyze components of tissue, serum and other physiological samples for biomarker discovery. Nanofabrication Laboratory is equipped to manufacture hydrogel nanoparticles to trap, concentrate and protect biomarkers directly from blood, urine and saliva samples, in one step; Drug discovery. Biochemistry Laboratories conduct research in metabolomics, synthetic biology, & identification/analysis of small antimicrobial peptides.

George Mason University Biomedical Research Lab A $50 million, 52,000-square-foot, stand-alone, high- security facility located at Innovation Park. Supports research programs in the National Center for Biodefense and Infectious Diseases focusing on host response using proteomics and nanotechnology. Facility features more than 18,500 square feet of lab space comprising BSL-2 open-design laboratories with cell culture suites, preparation areas, and a microscopy room; ABSL-2 rooms, a surgery suite; BSL-3 laboratories; and ABSL-3 suites and a necropsy suite. The heart of the ABSL-3 is a centralized aerobiology suite that contains a 10-foot stainless steel negative- pressure Class III hoodline. State-of-the-art facilities to house multiple animal species, from rodents to nonhuman primates.
