～始める、続ける、終える / 終わ る

いつつかう？ ～始める・～始まる – actions that start gradually, when you’re focusing on the beginning of an action and its continuation – Compared to ～出す (action started suddenly) or ～かける (action was started but not completed) ～続ける・～続く – focuses on the middle of a continuous action – Action has not ended yet (not a stop and restart) ～終える・終わる – Ended, and will be no more ( バイバイ ) (especially 終える ) – Not used as often in a verb complement, since it means TOTAL COMPLETION. WIPED FROM EXISTENCE. NEVER AGAIN. And so on. People tend to focus on the first two more than this one. – THING は終わった more common than THING を終えた – In fact, people often use 終わる colloquially instead of 終える even though it should be grammatically wrong

どうやってつくる？ Just like ～ます、～たい、～すぎ いちだん drop the end, add whatever – 食べ始める、見始める、ねむり始める – 食べ続ける、見続ける、ねむりつづける – 食べ終えた、見終えた、ねむりおえた？ ごだん change tail to い and add whatever – 言い始める、書き始める、話し始める、読み始める – 言い続ける、書き続ける、話し続ける、読み続ける – 言い終えた、書き終えた、話し終えた、読み終え た？ Irregular (?) – する＝＞しはじめる、しつづける、しおえる – くる＝＞きはじめる、きつづける、きおえる
