Inorganic Nutrient Research CCE LTER CCE LTER Research question: What are the drivers of long-term changes in inorganic nutrient concentrations, and what are the implications for pelagic ecosystem structure in a coastal upwelling biome? Chl-a, mg/m 3

Recent Key Findings - Inorganic Nutrients CCE LTER CCE LTER Bograd et al. Deep-Sea Research II 2015 a special issue devoted to CCE LTER time series offshorecoastal Time series of water properties ( ) on a particular density surface (   = 26.5) at a coastal vs offshore station. Trends in macronutrient concentration over time result in changing nutrient stoichiometry in upwelling source waters. ml/L μmol/kg Year ratio

Conclusions and Synthesis ideas – Inorganic Nutrients CCE LTER CCE LTER Long-term spatial patterns of inorganic nutrients in our region implicate basin-scale climate forcing for the variability in upwelling source waters. Changes in macronutrient ratios may impact planktonic communities, eg. frequency and abundance of toxic diatom species Pseudo-nitzschia. Synthesis suggestion – Linking patterns of change in inorganic nutrient stoichiometry at individual sites to changes in the species composition of primary producers.
