Creative CVs Let the exploration begin…

First lets look at the basics… What is a CV? A CV is a summary of your skills, experience, and personal qualities. What is it for? A CV is a platform for you to showcase yourself to employers. It is your opportunity to make a great first impression and persuade employers to offer you an interview. Why do I need one? CVs are crucial to job hunting because they are the quickest and most effective way of telling employers why they should hire you. Useful link herehere

Now lets look at a traditional CV… Traditional CVs generally follow this type of layout They are made up of text only and are generally conservative in design (standard font, white paper, no images) There are lots of benefits to the traditional CV, including: Convenience; there are lots of templates on the internet that allow job hunters to quickly put together a traditional CV Accessibility; in order to create a traditional CV a job hunter only needs access to a computer and a printer (or account) Recognised by employers; following a well established layout increases the likelihood that your CV will cover all the information that recruiters are looking for

Time to explore creative CVs! A creative CV is any CV that does not follow the traditional CV layout They tend to make use of technology in both their design and distribution They are very personalised because they are designed around the needs of the job hunter

Here are some examples of creative CVs…

Video CVs can be created in a range of different formats. The best way to understand how they work is to explore some examples Click on the links below to what some example video CVs: Go to LibraryPlus to borrow recording equipment and for help with editing videosLibraryPlus

This CV most closely resembles the traditional CV format. It is a static document that can be printed and distributed on paper However, with this type of CV you are free to break the rules associated with traditional CV formats Forget white paper and uniform fonts! Creative CVs give you the opportunity to add images and show off your design skills Why not try drawing images onto your CV and then scanning it?

This form of creative CVs use presentation software such as Powerpoint and Prezi to create an interactive presentation made of static images/ slides It is a good idea to explore both tools to find out which works best for you. Follow the links below.
