Introductions Advisory Committee for Teaching and Learning (ACTL) Represent teaching and learning issues of EDUCAUSE constituents

What is Instruction 2.0 Learner 2.0: ECAR Study 2007 Faculty 2.0 Moving beyond formative stages of instructional stages New models of instruction and new learning relationships between the faculty and students

Establishing and supporting a culture of evidence Accountability part of the higher education landscape: grand challenges Academic technologists will be expected to provide more data from an institutional view

Demonstrating improvement of learning Evidence of improved learning will be required Need to share strategies that support and improve teaching Improving learning technology tools based on research

Translating learning research into practice Awareness of a growing body of research Translating research into practice “Selling” research to faculty – “what is in it for me?”

Selecting appropriate models and strategies for e-learning Growing number of models and strategies Challenge of understanding the context in which models are successful Assisting faculty in adopting models and strategies Considering “fit” of technology to learners and faculty members

Providing tools to meet growing student expectations Understanding and collecting data on your “Net Generation” Faculty vs. student expectations of technology Do we accommodate students?

Providing professional development and support to new audiences Retirement of faculty member (30%) How do we prepare for the next generation of faculty members? How do we transition from supporting early adopters to adopters at various levels?

Sharing content, applications, and application development Collaboration is essential for survival Collaboration needs to occur at all levels within the organization –professional development, –content sharing, –application development, etc. Increased time to manage collaboration

Protecting institutional data Increasing number of academic systems with large data sets Data owners vs. data stewards Skills required to protect and utilize data not always found within academic technology units

Emerging ethical challenges Use of analytics continues to emerge Authorization and access to data Obligation of knowing

The evolving role of academic technologists Need to have greater understanding of educational research Must know how to work within a complex organizational environment Defining “return on investment”
