Events to perform in Cross-Examination Debate Lincoln-Douglas Debate Prose Reading Poetry Reading Original Oratory Extemporaneous Speaking Impromptu Speaking Solo Acting/Monologue Duet Acting

Cross-Examination Debate Cross-Examination debate is a policy debate in which you install a plan of solvency to a direct problem. You compete against teams of 2 people Extensive research is required for this debate, most provided by MHS A fast exchange of facts, statistic, persuasion, and a small amount of philosophy

Lincoln-Douglas Debate LD debate is a slower speaking debate that incorporates value theories, philosophy and some statistics on a morally based topic. This is a one on one debate. Not much research is required, however you must gain a good grasp of the topic as well as some philosophical ideals.

Prose & Poetry Reading This is also called oral interpretation. For Poetry, the performer memorizes a 7-9 minute poem or collection of poems. For Prose, the performer memorizes a 7-9 minute story. Both of these events involve acting skills to put the words you speak into motion.

Extemporaneous Speaking Exempt involves knowledge & research of current event topics. You are given 3 topics, you choose one topic out of the three. You are then given 30 minutes to browse through current event topics and develop a 4-7 minute speech, which you will perform.

Original Oratory Original Oratory is a 8-10 minute persuasive speech that you write, memorize, & perform. Topics are persuasive in nature to try and help some specific part of mankind. Examples: families who communicate more, organ donation/blood donation to help fellow man, not using sarcasm.

Solo Acting/Monologue/Duet Acting These are Acting events. Both are 8-10 minute memorized pieces Duets involve two actors performing a dramatic or humorous piece.
