Steve Catanach, P.E. City of Fort Collins Light & Power Manager FortZED – RDSI and Smart Grid Investment Grant

City of Fort Collins Electric Utility 65,000 homes and businesses Nearly all underground system 5 Substations 55 Distribution Feeders 43 st largest Municipal Utility in the Country

FortZED includes More than 7,000 customers—residential and commercial 8 distribution feeders (transmits electricity from the generation station to the customer) Approximately 45 MW peak demand, we’ll reduce this peak demand by 20%- 30% Over 200,000 MWh/year usage in the area FortZED represents about 10% - 15% of Fort Collins Utilities’ distribution system

FortZED – RDSI Project 2 of 8 feeders serving FortZED area Peak Demand: ~7-8 MW/feeder (1/3 rd of FortZED Captures both of the GS750 customers and all customer classes Serves as cross-cutting jump-start demo for FortZED FortZED represents about 10% - 15% of FCU’s distribution system in terms of energy consumption, peak demand, and number of customers

Smart Grid Investment Grant Major Project Areas 1.Advanced Metering Infrastructure and Meter Data Management Systems 2.Distribution Automation 3.Cyber Security 4.Enhanced Demand Response Programs and Customer Engagement
