Agenda 1.Explanation of the “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” Group Project 2.Assign groups and topics 3.Instructions: Creating your PowerPoint 1.Template. 2.Adding sound. 3.Examples (provided throughout this section) 4.Brainstorming your projects

Explanation of the “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” Group Project You will get into groups of 3-4 and choose a unit in history (i.e. First Occupants, New France, British Empire, etc.); FIRST- COME, FIRST-SERVED. You will create a “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” PowerPoint. –15 questions based on the unit you are assigned.

Explanation cont’d Purpose: –Preparing for the final exam. Active involvement in the material with your peers and teacher. Discussions on the topics will clarify them! –Learning the basics of PowerPoint. This will be useful later on when you have to make presentations for other classes (not just for our history class). Creating a simple, yet efficient and well-organized PowerPoint.

Assign groups and topics Get into groups of 3-4. Choose a topic (have at least 2 backups!). –Look at the course outline for the list of topics. YOU HAVE 5 MINUTES TO DO THIS!!! Once you choose your groups and topics, send one person to my desk so that I can finalize these.

Instructions: Creating your PowerPoint 1.Template. 2.Adding sound. 3.Examples

If you don’t know what this game show entails… There are 15 questions: with each correct question, you get a sum of money. In our case, we won’t be using real money… but it will still be fun! Since the whole class will be asked to answer the question, we will vote based on a show of hands

Title: “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?: New France” Names of group members. BE CREATIVE! Add a picture, a sound/song… anything that will catch your peers’ eyes. First Page: Title Page

example WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE?: New France Desiree Kregar, Nayiri Tokmanciyan

Add a slide: Insert > New slide Change the colour background: Format > Slide Background > (choose colour > fill effects > select blue and black > select horizontal option) > Apply to all Setting up your PPT: Template

Choose font and colour: Toolbox. For this project, it is preferable for you to use Arial, white.

Concerning your title page: −If you would like to add the Millionaire logo, find the image on the internet, save it, and add it into your PPT by selecting Insert > Picture. We will discuss how to add sound in the following slides.

Creating the question slides: –Shapes > Basic Shapes> Hexagon

You will need: –One large hexagon with the question in it. –Four smaller hexagons with the multiple choice answers. –Make the background of the hexagon a lighter blue (double click on the hexagon in order to get to the colour option). Inserting text: – Insert > textbox (use the same font [Arial] and colour [white]).

What were the main objectives of the seigneurial system under the French Regime in New France? A) To provide raw materials and increase settlement C) To increase settlement and develop agriculture. B) To explore new territory and improve the land D) To develop agriculture and the fur trade. example

Creating the answer slide: –Go on the slide with the question > Insert > Duplicate Slide. –Once you have the duplicated slide, change the colour of the hexagon with the right answer. –Double click on hexagon > (Change colour; preferably orange for the purpose of this project)

What were the main objectives of the seigneurial system under the French Regime in New France? A) To provide raw materials and increase settlement C) To increase settlement and develop agriculture. B) To explore new territory and improve the land D) To develop agriculture and the fur trade. example

NORMALLY, adding sound to your PPT requires you to do the following: Insert > Sound and Music > From File > (Choose sound) > When clicked OR automatically. Setting up your PPT: Sound

FOR OUR PURPOSES, due to copyright laws, you have 2 options: − Use an iPhone to download the FREE “Who wants to be a millionaire?” App. Play the sound at the appropriate times during your presentation. Your iPhone will be connected to speakers so that the sound will be loud enough. −IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN APPLE DEVICE AND ACCESS TO THIS FREE APP, simply go to youtube and search for the sound. You can either play it from your own laptop, the classroom computer, or the teacher’s laptop (please let the teacher know beforehand).

example What were the main objectives of the seigneurial system under the French Regime in New France?
