IBM - CVUT Student Research Projects Smart Kiosk in SecondLife Vojtěch Vavřín

IBM - CVUT Student Research Projects 2 Goals To explore the interaction via a step-on device in SecondLife (SL) by transfering the previous project „The carpet as a simple input device“ (2008) into this virtual environment. To create a kiosk and to implement a game inspired by „Who wants to be a millionaire“.

IBM - CVUT Student Research Projects 3 Kiosk & Screen Smart Kiosk is equiped with a large screen and 4 step-on tiles on the floor enabling a user to play an interactive game „The Billionaire“ controlled by keyboard arrows. Each key press changes a texture of the screen.

IBM - CVUT Student Research Projects 4 Controls & Standing The avatar „sits“ on the object being linked to it and script takes over the user's controls. The animation of sitting is forced to stop and replaced by SL internal animation „stand_1“.

IBM - CVUT Student Research Projects 5 Animations Parts of four other animations of avatar's movement (such as dancing and kicking ;-) are used to imitate stepping on the tiles.

IBM - CVUT Student Research Projects 6 Snapshots

IBM - CVUT Student Research Projects 7 Conclusion The simulation of the interaction between the avatar and the game via feet was completed successfully. Possible extensions: – Adding sound – Replacing built-in animations with custom-made ones – Creating an automatic guiding avatar
