February 1, 2016 Warm-Up: If the deepest hole ever drilled into the earth was only 12.2 km deep- less than.2% of the distance to the earth’s center, how do scientists know that the earth’s interior has layers? Information acquired from the motion of earthquake waves has contributed to a picture of earthquake waves.

Why do you think earthquakes are located in these specific areas? **Earthquake and volcanic activity are closely related to the movement of these plates.
