Introduction G Hydropower is the energy that comes from the force of moving water through a turbine inside a dam.

Renewable or Nonrenewable? G Hydropower is a renewable energy source. As long as the sun shines and it rains. The Water cycle must exist for hydropower to exist. drofacts/images/01-ga _small.jpg

Where is it located? G Hydropower is usually found in dams.So basically any body of water can produce hydropower. m/wp- content/uploads/2008/12/h ydropower1.jpg

Ways we use it G Electricity G Controlling floods G Electricity G Controlling floods

How we get it? We can build a dam with turbines inside it and having an area where water can flow through and spin the turbines to create electricity. G Deepening water ways G Drinking water We can build a dam with turbines inside it and having an area where water can flow through and spin the turbines to create electricity. G Deepening water ways G Drinking water photos/lhhydro_facility.jpg

Is it safe to use? G It is sort of safe to use.But it interrupts the life cycle of some fish, some of the water that flows back in is cold. The fish aren’t used to it.Also the water lacks nutrients that the fish need d/water_proj/hydro/T ostondam.jpg

Advantages and Disadvantages G Advantages G Its renewable, once the dam is built all of the energy is virtually free.Much more reliable than wind, solar or wave power. G Advantages G Its renewable, once the dam is built all of the energy is virtually free.Much more reliable than wind, solar or wave power. G Disadvantages G Dams are expensive, building a large dam will cause problems for animals, water and downstream quality.Which will then effect plant life.
