Did you know that the Great Wall is one of the Seven Wonders of the World? The Great Wall is really important to China. Come on down and take a look at this magnificent place.. The Great Wall

War! Imagine 100 enemies approaching! There is no place to hide. You go to a watchtower. You are safe. Watchtowers are really helpful. If the enemies are right outside and you are hungry, the watchtower has, fresh stored food. The Chinese need to keep a lookout so they peek though the watchtowers window. That is how they protect the Chinese.

Watchtowers A watchtower is a little hideout on top of the Great Wall. They are not as small as you think! The top half was used for a lookout and the bottom half was used for sleeping, sorting food, and weapons. Watchtowers are used for keeping a lookout for enemies.

The Great Wall is gigantic. It spreads all over China. The Great Wall can fit two cars next to each other. That’s about the width. The Great Wall is about 40,000 kilometers. Wow, that’s a lot of kilometers! Thousands of people could fit on The Great Wall, all at one time. Length and Height

Forced People Zheng was an emperor of the Ming dynasty. He forced the people into making The Great Wall. Zheng wanted the enemies not to come to the other side of China. If the people didn’t listen to him, he would send them to prison. In prison, the people don’t get fed well.

There were a lot of people building The Great Wall at a time. There were about 500,000 commanders. All the people building The Great Wall together is about the population of San Francisco today! Building The Great Wall was a lot of hard work. Many people died while building The Great Wall. So it is really special to the Chinese. Building
