Status and Highlights: EMR f = 934 GHz Commercialinstruments

Vision for the EMR Program Significant growth in the biological EPR program, built around HiPER (and the chem/bio Scholar/Scientist). HiPER, which will be acquired from St. Andrews University, offers a step-change in time resolution and sensitivity at 95 GHz.  Applications in site directed spin labeling in biomolecules, free radical chemistry/biochemistry, transition metal ion chemistry/biochemistry, catalysis, light emitting polymers, defects and impurities in semiconductors, molecular magnets and magnetic recording media as well as looking at applications in spintronics, nanophotonics and quantum computing. Major involvement in the development of the BigLight FEL and its users programs, including EMR program growth related these activities. EMR program to become a major user of the new split-gap optical magnet and the series connected hybrid; the latter will enable even higher resolution at frequencies up to 1THz. Education: Increased student and postdoctoral activity within the group Organize a national interdisciplinary EPR school (1 week student workshop).
