Task 6: Retrievals with one or more missing AMSU channels Task: Results will be analysed with a view to drawing conclusions re performance of Metop-A vs Metop-B and for the MWIR retrievals with/without channel 7 channels 3,7 and 8. Status: CFIs now all acquired Metop A data for 23 March 2010 and 17 Oct 2013 New days processed: Bias/covariance for Metop A based on IR OEM complete All runs as per Task 5 settings (analysis/plotting not yet done) Still to run Met B 17 Oct with/without channels too for control

Remaing / future work Task 4/5/6: Still want to test impact of tightening assumed measurement error in MW windows – e.g. adopt sea noise model also over land Task 7: Final reporting & deliverables Results in hdf files, including statistics Should iterate off-line on precisely what required Further work beyond study Further improve emissivity fitting over desert Assess ozone performance Use relaxed prior constraint Compare to sondes + models (more data processing required) Link to parallel methane OEM study OEM CH4 scheme currently relies on analysis + RTTOV emissivity Use results from MWIR OEM and test impact (op L2 + improved)
