QUESTION 2 How does your media product represent particular social groups ? By Jake Macleod

OUR CHARACTER Fabian is the heroin of the film. Despite the opening title sequence portraying him as an evil/zombie like character. This is done to spark mystery right from the start. However, like many other films, our heroin Fabian is normal and likeable member of society just like everyone else and he is of no specific social class (so that he is easy to relate to). He is a intelligent and charming young man. Though when present with a problem, he acts quickly like a hero. Other characters in the film such as Sandy (Fabian’s wife), are also of normal social class as well as british race and an average kind of profession. I feel the initial image of Fabian and his wife initiate immediate respect for him as a person, he is wearing normal clothes with his wife, and walking his dogs. This portrayal shows that he is a normal person and not a negative character This typical representation of people in society creates a bond with the audience and the character, this is important if one of the aims is to create empathy with the main characters. However, portraying characters in a dark and mysterious light (like our opening title sequence) gives an extra dimension to way of looking at the characters. Aswell as the use of direct facial expressions straight in the camera. This grabs the viewers attention. The whole mise-en-scene and editing creates a mystery to what the characters are actually like, provoking a greater interest in the film.

Our main character is portrayed in a similar fashion to the boy at the beginning of Arlington Road. Fabian is walking towards the character very disorientated with blood dripping down him. Though as his body is revealed, he is clothed normally and appears to be a normal kind of person. ). He is young, maybe late teen or early. Though because of how he appears, he is unpredictable. His body language, reflect his unpredictable personality and danger to others.
