Sidereal -vs- Solar periods Eclipses Seasons Last Time:

Baseline We need to start with things that are familiar. This provides a comparison for other objects. Astronomically, we are most familiar with the Earth-Moon system. The Earth-Moon system.

Compare these two pictures. Write down the features you see. What do the features tell you about the objects? Starting with the Earth.

Remember that was you see and what you interpret it to be are not the same thing.

And from these images. Compare the similarities and the differences. What can you learn about these objects?

Some Examples Round- means it is massively big. well-defined features- solid smooth features- liquid fluffy, swirly features- gas (they move too!) multiple colors- changes in temperature or composition shading- changes in altitude or composition cratering- solid surface- get surface age too. Surface age provides clues about weathering

What is this an image of? What's the arrow pointing to?

Applying the scientific method Which body is older, the Earth or the Moon?

Applying the scientific method Which body is older, the Earth or the Moon? Is there a way to know for sure?
