Also called the circulatory system, it consists of the heart, blood vessels, and blood. It carries needed substances to cells and carries waste products.
The Circulatory System. Function  Consists of the heart and blood vessels  Carries oxygen and nutrients to the body’s cells and remove carbon dioxide.
Why is it important? Your body’s cells depend on the blood vessels to bring nutrients & remove wastes.

What are the major functions of the cardiovascular system?

Functions of the Cardiovascular system Transports nutrients and oxygen to the cells and carries waste products away from cells. Consists of blood, heart and blood vessels.

The Heart Hollow, muscular organ. When heart beats, pushes blood through the blood vessels. When heart relaxes it fills with blood. When heart muscle contracts it pumps blood out.

Chambers of the Heart Complete this chart using pg 164 Questions Upper Chambers Lower Chambers What are these Chambers called? How many are there? What is the function of these chambers?

Two Loop System Pulmonary Circulation: blood travels from the heart to the lungs and then back to heart. Systemic Circulation: blood is pumped from the heart throughout the body and returns to the heart.

Two Loop System

Arteries 1.Thick walled structures 2.Carries blood away from heart

Capillaries & Veins 1. Materials are exchanged between the blood and the body’s cells. 2. Capillary walls only 1 cell thick. 3. After blood moves through capillaries, it enters the veins. Veins carry blood back to the heart.
