Strategic planning: good take-up of concept, but mixed results in implementation, “misalignment” between donor actions and NSDS census round: impressive results, but complementary actions needed. Increased funding: yes, but too “fragmented” and “concentrated”. IHSN / ADP: good progress, but are we making full use of existing data? Improvements in MDG monitoring: more “2 data points” instances, but are MDGs relevant in countries? Accountability of international system: Principles for IOs, but is more needed (e.g. co-ordination)?

Partnership, more South – South co-operation: changing relationships, emerging countries becoming leaders amongst their peers (e.g. South Africa, Brazil). Global programmes: some well integrated into MAPS philosophy, others not. World-wide development indicators: do not fulfil country needs; move towards country specific indicators.

13-Jul-07 Name of the presentation Busan actions – CCSA comments (1) 0.General - the actions must be Measurable (we are statisticians!); - who does what? - Virtual Statistical System: one stop shop - HR issues: reduce effect of “brain drain” 1.Strategic - NSDS must be a precondition for support; - align donor actions to NSDSs; - NSDS: emphasis on implementation, costing, realism. 2.Global Summits to recognise need for SCB - common statistical tools; standards; - establish links between Summits and Global Statistical projects.
