What do I need to be a general internist? The minimum formal education I need to become a general internist is a bachelor’s degree (biology, chemistry, anatomy) But many hospitals require graduate school, so a Ph. D, M.D., D.O., or J.D might be required The total amount of time that it will take for me to get my medical license is 8-11 years (this is not including further education) Getting a license requires you to go through a state medical board & pass a written exam with a skills test

What transferable skills do I need Diagnosing disease and disorders Giving health care instructions Giving injections, drugs, and other medications Investigating data to diagnose and solve problems Managing and directing people and programs Planning health care treatments Using tools from other fields such as dentistry to treat patients Ultimately monitoring, science, reading, listening, speaking, and writing are needed

What will I do Treat and diagnose patients with diseases that affect any and all internal organs If the patient needs a specialist I will refer them to one if I see fit I will decide how the patient will be treated based on his/her condition
