BULLYING/SEXUAL HARASSMENT PREVENTION: Recommendations for Schools From the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence

The Role of Schools in Preventing Bullying and Sexual Harassment The school should be a safe and positive learning environment for ALL students.

Recommended General Rules for Improving Overall School Climate Two general conditions must exist in order to prevent bullying and sexual harassment: Adults at schools should be aware of the extent of bully/victim problems in their own schools. These adults should involve themselves in changing the situation.

Consequences of Bullying and Sexual Harassment Behavior Establishing rules against bullying/sexual harassment necessitates creating positive or negative consequences for following or violating rules.

School-Level Interventions Designed to improve overall school climate.

Classroom-Level Interventions Designed to improve an individual classroom’s social climate.

Individual-Level Interventions Designed to change or improve the behavior of students in general.
