 MU is located in Columbia, MO.  Located in the center of Missouri  Town is known for its nicknames, “The Athens of Missouri”, “College Town USA”, and “CoMO”.  Columbia is the poetic name for the United States.  The campus is on 1,372 acres. 5,000 trees. 650 varieties of plants.

 MU was founded in 1839  It was founded by James S. Rollins, known has “Father of the University of Missouri”.  Rollins reasoning behind MU was the slavery of his great-great grandfather. He got to thinking about his family’s slavery and knew he had to do something.

 MU’s mascot is the Tiger.  The tiger was chosen because at the time of the Civil War, plundering guerilla bands habitually raided small towns, and Columbia people constantly feared an attack.  The tiger is a appropriate because they recognized those Civil War defenders.  The mascot was named Truman the Tiger in honor of Missouri’s own President, Harry S Truman.

 As of right now, MU doesn’t have a basketball coach. But the old coach was Mike Anderson.  Marcus Denmon is MU’s best player because he had the best average points per game, most consistent all year, and won all the big 12 first team honors.

 MU is one of only five universities nationwide that offers law, medicine, veterinary medicine and a nuclear research reactor on one campus.  Academic Hall fell victim to a disastrous fire. The fire completely gutted the building, leaving little more than six stone columns standing.
