  Engage, asses, intervene, and evaluate with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Competency 10

  Substantively and affectively prepare for action with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.  Coming up in Janurary we are going to a training call Healthy Families of American and this training is going to upgrade Healthy Start from working with just mothers and children to the whole family. Practice Behavior 10.1

  Use empathy and other interpersonal skills.  I have a client who is in need of housing for her and her two children but she will not leave her boyfriend, and they have no plans of getting married. So I told her when her makes up her mind and understands what is important than I will be able to help her. Practice Behavior 10.2

  Develop a mutually agreed-on focus of work.  I have a client who has agreed, come Janurary that she will be going back to school. Practice Behavior 10.3

  Collect, organize, and interpret client data.  Each client has their own personal folder with all the information that is needed from them and the baby, this information is then processed and put in data form to keep in our records aphabetically. Practice Behavior 10.4

  Assess client strengths and limitations.  We have a form that is called a coordination assessment form and this gives us more information of the needs of the client. The Goal Attaining Scale gives us the opportunity to set goals for the client and allows the client to find ways to obtain these goals. Practice Behavior 10.5

  Develop mutually agreed-on intervention goals and objectives.  We use the Goal Attaining Scaling and it is a form that both the client and the case manager use to set goals and to reach those goals. Practice Behavior 10.6

  Select appropriate intervention strategies.  As a case manager I am allow to refer clients to the Domestic Violence Center. I have a client who has some domestic violence in the home and I transported her to Enlighten Native Daughters and they are providing a place for her to stay. Practice Behavior 10.7

  Initiate actions to achieve organizational goals.  I have provided clients with transportation to fill out applications for housing and also housing. Practice Behavior 10.8

  Implement prevention interventions that enhance client capacities.  We give brochures and talk about SIDS, giving the client a demonstration of how the baby must sleep in a crib and the way the blanket must be placed around the baby. Practice Behavior 10.9

  Help clients resolve problems.  Starting in January we are hosting classes for Quickbooks and other trainings that will help our clients get a job. These classes will be free for clients so this breaks down the barriers of how clients will have access to this information. Practice Behavior 10.10

  Negotiate, mediate, and advocate for clients.  I was the one who insisted that we provide the training and education for the clients to help better themselves. Practice Behavior 10.11

  Facilitate transitions and endings.  We encourage that Healthy Start is a family and what affects our clients affect us. Through the whole experience we provided information and strategies that will drive our clients to want to succeed. Practice Behavior 10.12

  Social Workers critically analyze, monitor, and evaluate interventions.  At Healthy Start we are with the client every step of the way, even though we may refer clients out we still make contact to maintain that relationship. Practice Behavior 10.13
