Jerusalem is symbolic of peace and prosperity. Jesus riding on a donkey is symbolic of humility and peace. The branches & blankets are symbolic of royal procession. “Hosanna” means “Free us from oppression!” Jesus is both Sovereign King and Humble Human.

Jesus’ clearing of the temple is symbolic of economic justice and social inclusiveness. Jesus’ attention to the sick and the children is symbolic of healing and hospitality.

The reign of God dramatized by Jesus’ symbolic actions on Palm Sunday is characterized by humility, peace, justice, and hospitality. How will we live this out today?
