Benefits of Physical Activity Target: I will be able to Explain the benefits of being physically fit to physical, mental/emotional, and social health and Calculate BMI and Heart Rates People who are usually inactive can improve their health and well-being by becoming even moderately active on a regular basis. Benefits to physical health Reduces feeling of fatigue and stiffness Helps control weight Reduces risk of Type II Diabetes Pg. 37

Builds and maintains healthy bones, muscles, and joints. Slows onset of osteoporosis Reduces arthritis (joint swelling) Protection against disease by building up resistance Recuperate more quickly after injury or illness Helps you sleep better Decreases risk of developing colon cancer Reduces premature death 

Improves the functioning of the: Nervous system – Improves reaction time Circulatory system – Heart pumps blood more efficiently so more work can be done with less effort Respiratory system – More efficient, lung capacity increases so fewer breaths are needed
