FICCICECE Leadership - New role Change is the biggest challenge for the leader in the new millennium. Keeping pace with the complexity and the rate of change, have become the most critical factors for the organizations today. We are in a phenomenon where business is of speed of thought.

FICCICECE Leadership - Abandon yesterday Peter Drucker calls it the task of “abandoning yesterday and making the future”. Business leaders even as they grapple with the present realities, have to keep one foot firmly planted in the future, if they do not wish to be blown away by the continuous hailstorm of change that will characterize the new millennium.

FICCICECE Leadership - Winners The only survivors of this onslaught will be corporations headed by leaders endowed with the ability to see what lies ahead and to create in their organizations the necessary resilience to deal with the future.

FICCICECE Leadership - Profile The profile of the leader of the millennium depends on four factors that will drive change in this century. 1. Technology. 2. Global Standards. 3. Innovation. 4. Retention of superior human capital.

FICCICECE Leadership - New role To cope with the change drivers, the leader will have to be a visionary, a change agent, a change leader and a knowledge manager. The most important task of the leader will be creating the organization’s vision and backing it up with the right corporate strategy.

FICCICECE Leadership - New role To be both a change agent and a change leader, the CEO must be both flexible and adaptable. He should be able to identify and take advantage of emerging opportunities well before the competition. He should create a culture, conducive to change, which must facilitate continuous abandonment of yesterday and rapid adoption of tomorrow.

FICCICECE Leadership - New role Rather than the charisma, leaders will be known for the processes they create. Integrative thinking - the ability to link internal processes and systems with the external world- will be the most desirable leadership quality. Innovation will be at premium and will need to be guided by structured creative process.

FICCICECE Leadership - New role Leaders will have to develop knowledge management systems within their organizations. Business processes will have to be redefined around knowledge and not materials or capital. For this the CEO will have to create knowledge centres which should be able to capture knowledge and disseminate it across the organization for use as a competitive weapon.

FICCICECE Leadership - New role Thus the millennium leaders will be known - â Less for what they say, and more for what they deliver. âLess by the goals they set, and more by the mindsets they build. âLess by what they control, and more by what they shape.
