IBL CO 2 cooling flexible transfer integration into IDEP 24 July 2013 Jan Godlewski, Bart Verlaat, Siegfried Wenig, Nicolas Massol, Tomasz Blaszczyk 1

Stiff tubes (14mm OD) 1730 mm long Flexible tubes (18mm OD) Foam box with vacuum terminal and concentric split (Splitter box) Designed routing in IDEP Side A. 14x 3mm OD tubes bundled in insulation 13mm bundle diameter + 13mm insulation (40mm OD) Designed by Eric Richards, Atlas PO Stiff tubes with a reduced diameter of 14mm were foreseen to be installed above the cables. This was the space foreseen from the model

Routing in IDEP Side C. Stiff tubes (14mm OD) 2600mm long Flexible tubes (18mm OD) Foam box with vacuum terminal and concentric split (Splitter box) 14x 3mm OD tubes bundled in insulation 13mm bundle diameter + 13mm insulation (40mm OD) Designed by Eric Richards, Atlas PO

Tubing mock-up fit A mockup of the stiff section was made for 14 and 18mm tubes. The goal was to see or the design fits (14mm) The ultimate goal was to see or perhaps the 18mm fits. –This means no stiff section: only flexible! The installation scenario is now to assemble everything on the surface and install all in 1 go. –Stiff tubes are not handy in this case. 4

Version 1 of the tube support and installation frame 5 Dummy LAPP connectors in IBL place for exact positioning reference Free space in frame for orbital welding access Rotatable frame to pass around beam pipe Support frame extension for coiled flex hoses Frame supports flex line terminals in exact position wrt the LAPP connectors Assembly and welding done at surface Stiff tubes will make this assembly 2.6m longer

Dummy tube installation conclusion A 18mm tube fits all the way to the splitter are! No more stiff tube sections are needed. Tubes to the splitter must now follow 2 paths as the space above orange ox is not okay for 18mm. Split of bundle requires a redesign of the splitter box –2 small splitter boxes instead of 1. (3+4). –Enough space available for an alternative splitter box 10 No space to go over with 18mm Bundle of 7 split into 2 bundles Free area for splitter boxes (to be shared with 2 small boxes who can be moved)

New version of the tube support and installation frame 11 The separated splitter box allow us to install the IBL tubes in 2 separate tube bundles. The eases the installation around the beam pipe and the handling of the flex lines

Main conclusions We go for all flexible from manifold to splitter box. –Braided or not is still an open point We can have 2 small splitter boxes instead of 1. But tube layout can also be integrated in 1 box still if necessary. Installation of the flex lines including connectors goes in 2 steps (3+4) 12
