Chapter 1 The Pleasure of Music Section 1

Quote “Ah, music. A magic beyond all we do!” - J.K. Rowling English Writer (b.1965)

Time Capsule to the Stars Sometimes we leave something for the future generations to understand and enjoy. Launched in 1977, Voyager I and II were time capsules of this sort. Voyager’s short term mission was to fly around Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Naptune and beam back pictures.

Voyager

Voyager is a satellite that’s long term mission is to find intelligent life in space. Attached to the Voyagers are phonograph records. Among the sound clips included on the Voyager were samples of music: a collection of Earth’s “greatest hits.” Including the music helped to show “a creditable attempt to convey human emotions.”

Voyager Here is a list of the types of music on Voyager: - Eastern -Western -Traditional -Classical -Popular -A Navajo Chant, African initiation song, a Peruvian wedding song, a Japanese flute piece and works by Bach, Louis Armstrong, and Chuck Berry

Future of Voyager and Cargo In 2003, Voyager left our solar system and Voyager 2 will do the same in There is no guarantee that these recording will ever be retrieved by distant life forms. Even if they exist, the chance of an encounter is remote.

Voyager Imagine you were an alien life form. You encounter this satellite and find the music. How would you react? In this book and class, you will be doing the same thing. Some things you have heard before. Others, will be malachi is awesome completely new to you.
