Karl Dittrich ENQA-board Chair NVAO Thessaloniki, 20 September 2012 INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE: Why we need it and how to implement it

most countries depend on knowledge universities are “power houses” of knowledge universities need “autonomy”, but have to be “responsive” Internal Quality Assurance: Why we need it and how to implement it - KD - September

 universities need a vision on their own role in society,  but vision and ambition have to be realistic  “Bologna” helps to develop vision and ambition in “European context”  quality assurance is conditional!  internal quality assurance should be part of our daily work  teachers have to be in “the heart” of quality assurance Internal Quality Assurance: Why we need it and how to implement it - KD - September

 education has become the responsibility of a team  “teacher” has to behave as “responsible professional”  “teacher” has to behave as “future-oriented professional” - on subject, discipline and profession - on educational issues - on “administrative side” of teaching  good assessment is crucial  internal quality assurance should follow education, not lead/prescribe it!  students are natural and main partners Internal Quality Assurance: Why we need it and how to implement it - KD - September

EIGHT ELEMENTS:  teacher as a future-oriented, responsible professional  responsibility for a programme lies with a team of teachers  the involvement of motivated students  a supportive internal quality assurance system  a critical attitude among all staff  let professional field and alumni participate  maximal openness  unconditional support from university top Internal Quality Assurance: Why we need it and how to implement it - KD - September
