I have explained how several different factors led to the defeat of the Spanish Armada and have begun to prioritise them I have given specific source evidence and key terms to support my points. I have used a clear PEE structure throughout my project. I have an introduction and conclusion which answers the question. To identify the main people involved in the Spanish Armada To compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of the English and Spanish Elizabeth I am Queen of England and Ireland. I am female, 58 years old but unmarried with no children. I am a strong and stubborn leader and do not like to be controlled by men. I am a Protestant who wants to preserve religious freedom for her country, whether it is Catholic or Protestant. So far I have been Queen for 30 years.

To identify the main people involved in the Spanish Armada To compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of the English and Spanish Philip II of Spain I am King of Spain, Portugal, Naples and previous King of England and Ireland. I am male, 60 years old and have been married 4 times; including to Queen Mary of England. She gave me no children but I now have 6 children, including 4 male heirs. I am Catholic and have the support of the Pope, Italy and France. I want to get rid of Elizabeth and Protestantism. I can be very angry and often get my own way.

To identify the main people involved in the Spanish Armada To compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of the English and Spanish ENGLAND An island nation – good to combat invaders as they have to travel by sea Small compared to the other countries in Europe Ties with Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Netherlands Thames river cuts in-land at London – risky for invasion Lots of peasants who are split between Catholic or Protestant Lots of woods to make ships

SPAIN Lots of woods to make boats from To identify the main people involved in the Spanish Armada To compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of the English and Spanish SPAIN Lots of woods to make boats from Close ties to France, Italy and Portugal Lots of coastline to launch ships from Rich country due to Catholic ties and trade in gold from the New World Several large rivers that cut into the country from the sea Very prepared for invasion

To identify the main people involved in the Spanish Armada To compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of the English and Spanish LORD HOWARD I am Lord High Admiral of the English navy and a very good sailor. I am experienced in peace negotiations between France and England and have been known to be a strong and stubborn leader. I also happen to be cousin of Anne Boleyn! I was involved in the execution of Mary Queen of Scots and happen to be good friends with Sir Francis Drake; we were busy playing bowls on the cliffs of Plymouth when the Armada was sighted!

To identify the main people involved in the Spanish Armada To compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of the English and Spanish DUKE OF PARMA I am related to King Philip and many other royals across Europe even though I am illegitimate. I am an experienced soldier, sailor and genera and have led many battles in the Spanish Netherlands against the rebels who wanted freedom from the Spanish. I was the one who was meant to be picked up by the Spanish boats with my troops to sail up the Thames and then attack London. To top it all off though, I am a strong leader for my men and I keep a wise head when it came to war….

To identify the main people involved in the Spanish Armada To compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of the English and Spanish SIR FRANCIS DRAKE I am an experienced sailor and have even sailed across the world! I have been known as ‘The Queen’s Pirate’ for raiding Spanish ships for gold. I also have experience with war and even with my own men I crushed a rebellion held against me by cutting off the leader’s head. I am calm in a stressful situation and am adored across England. Before the Armada had even set sail I went across to the Spanish ports and set some ships on fire!

To identify the main people involved in the Spanish Armada To compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of the English and Spanish DUKE OF MEDINA SIDONIA I am a very important and religious noble and also one of the wealthiest men in Spain. I handle the taxes for royalty and nobles so I am very good with numbers. I also like to ride horses. I’ve had no real sailing experience and suffered from bad sea –sickness. I begged King Philip not to put me in charge of the Armada, but he told me God would help me.
