Reports / Updates From Task Groups / Liaisons Material Test Lab Calibration & Certification David Salgado reporting for Tim Haeberle 9 February 2010
Material Test Lab Calibration & Certification Material test lab calibration & certification was discussed as a potential new work item at the API SC summer meeting. Brett Puckett of Shell US requested the discussion of this issue. Shell, Europe created its own requirement for calibration & certification of material test labs testing Alloy 718, and this has been imposed on Shell worldwide.
Material Test Lab Calibration & Certification On behalf of API SC6, Tim Haeberle was assigned to follow-up with Brett Puckett and advise him what is required to formally request a new work item using the Standards Resource & Research Request Form. Brett Puckett has been contacted, but Shell personnel do not wish to propose a new work item for this issue at the Winter Meeting. Brett advises that Shell may attempt to advance this issue in API SC18.
Material Test Lab Calibration & Certification Comment: –Implementation of a requirement for material test lab calibration & certification could severely restrict the ability of manufacturers of API equipment to procure raw materials and manufacture equipment. Issues: –There is no single nationally or internationally accepted standard for material test lab calibration or certification. –There is no single national or international certifying authority for material test labs.
