The Scientific Method

The 5 Senses Sight Hearing Touch Smell Taste

Step 1 - Hypothesis A guess based on limited information.

Step 2 - Experimentation Gather data to test your hypothesis. Experiment.

Step 3 - Theory A better guess based on more information than you had for your hypothesis.

Why is The Scientific Method is so important. In the late 1950’s, Thalidomide was given to mothers to help with morning sickness. The drug was not properly tested and caused severe birth defects in their babies.

Step 4 – Publish Findings Scientists publish results for everyone to review. Other Scientists will repeat the experiments.

Step 5 – Form a Law If enough information exists to support the Theory, a Law may be formed. Laws are not always forever.
