The Importance of Statistics

What can you say from looking at this data? Treatment 1  101  104  109  111  106  107  101 Treatment 2  102  104  106  121  122  98  99

P-value PROVE Your P-value from your statistical test does not: Prove your hypothesis is right or wrong Indicate “chance” or “probability” Rather it: Adds support or refutes your hypothesis that you made, based on the specific statistical test your team used

Talk to the Professionals! Photo’s taken from: Dr. Aaron McCrightHanni NicholsAkililu Zeleke These are Lyman Briggs Professors who have worked with students in the past on providing a better understanding and direction with interpreting their data. These are just a few of Holmes’ finest!

So What CAN we conclude from our analysis? The p-value obtained from running a t-test can be used to support or refute the hypothesis developed. However, this is evidence specific only to the t-test. This is not PROOF/ does NOT PROVE anything, simply adds evidence for or against your hypothesis based on the statistical test implemented.
