TABLE TENNIS Springboro Junior High

HOW DO YOU PLAY? of-Table-Tennis-Ping-Pong-EXPLAINED

THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS YOU CAN’T DO WHEN PLAYING TABLE TENNIS……  YOU CAN’T…….  1. let the ball bounce twice on your side.  2. hit the ball before it bounces on your side.  3. hit the ball with anything other than your paddle.  4. hit the ball off the table onto the floor.  5. hit the ball with your paddle twice before hitting over the net. 6. hit the ball into the net and have it come back on your side.

MORE RULES  When playing singles, a person can serve the ball anywhere on the table.  When playing doubles, the server must serve diagonal (your right side of table to their right side of table). Official rules say you must alternate rally hits with your partner….but that is really tough so you don’t have to play by that rule in PE class as long as the other team agrees.  If the ball hits the net and goes over into the proper area it is called a let. A point is not awarded to either team. Simply redo the serve.  The serve switches sides every two points. After two points have been awarded, your opponent (or in doubles, the person on the opposing team who is cross- court from the server) then gets to serve. After two more points are awarded, the original server (or in doubles, his partner) then serves.

LASTLY……. Rally Serving: Every serve in table tennis counts as a point for someone!  Games are played to 11 points, and you have to win by 2 points. If you win, you win the SET. The first player to win 3 sets is the WINNER.  But in PE class, no one wins a trophy. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done!!

THE TWO MOST COMMON GRIPS:  The Western (Shake-hands) Grip:  The Penhold Grip:  Find out which works best for you!  Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
