Conscious/unconscious choking adult
How it’s done?? 1. Start by asking the patient are you ok?? 2. If pt can’t speak or breath, give the emergency responder statement ( hallow my name is..,I’m an emergency responder may I help you ??) 3. Alert EMS begin with back blows. If back blow don’t clear the obstruction then move to abdomen thrusts
Back blow 1. Take position behind the patient 2. Support the patient with one hand and lean him forward 3. Strike the patient between the shoulder with the heal of your hand ( five times) 4. If the back blow didn’t work go for abdomen thrust 5. Stop if the obstruction is clears, encourage the patient to breath and monitor his ADCD’s
Abdomen thrust
o Perform up to five quick inward and upward thrusts o If the abdomen thrust don’t clear the obstruction switch to back blows. Alternative 5 back blow and 5 abdomen thrust
Chest thrust. Don’t perform abdomen thrust on pregnant or obese person Ably the thrust on the sternum
Unconscious patient ( caused by chocking ) Begin CPR as primary care Follow chest compression, quickly look in the patient mouth remove any obstruction with your finger If no object is seen or object has removed follow with two rescue breaths Continuo CPR till EMS arrive
