Graduate Representatives One year terms All graduate students eligible to run Representatives elected by entire FNAL graduate student population Choose 5 highest vote receivers as next year’s representatives This year: –Freya Blekman: D0 –Nathan Goldschmidt: CDF –Mike Kirby: CDF –Heather Ray: CDF –Michel Sorel: BooNE (E898)

What do we do? Work with lab/government on issues of concern to graduate students Educate federal government on physical science issues Organize educational and social events Provide information for students/post docs who are new to the area – : guide to life, archived classes and lectures, job links (thanks to FNAL office of public affairs and xenomedia)

How is this Accomplished? Given a budget each year Other opportunities for funding (URA/lab) Involvement in committees of UEC - ex: Inreach, Outreach, Quality of Life Participate in annual UEC trip to Washington, DC

Visa Survey Results Students from foreign institutions usually here on J1 visa Problems in some cases for continuing Post- Docs at non-US institutions who work at FNAL Ongoing collaboration with UEC/FNAL to develop new visa for scientists
