Blast Off Into Space By Mrs. Chalmers’ 2 nd Grade River Road Elementary School

The Milky Way goes around and around like the sun. It got it’s name because it looks like a creamy band of stars from Earth. Corinthian

STAR A star is a ball of hot gases out in space. It gives off light. From the Earth the stars seem to make patterns and twinkle in the night. Our sun is a yellow star. There is also a blue star, and a red star. JA’NIJAH

The North Star is also called Polaris. It is the last star in the handle of the Little Dipper. Karen Garcia

Constellations are groups of stars that make pictures in the night sky. Constellations can help people find stars. Britney

The Little Dipper The Little Dipper is next to the Big Dipper. The Little Dipper looks like the Big Dipper upside down. The North Star is the first star in the Little Dipper’s handle. Breanna

Orion the Hunter is a constellation in the night sky. There are three stars in a row that make his belt. Nick

The sun is the brightest object in the day sky. It is the closest star to Earth. The sun is shaped like a ball. She’Merria

MERCURY IS THE CLOSEST PLANET TO THE SUN. IT TRAVELS AROUND THE SUN 6 TIMES A YEAR. Marquavious

Venus is the second planet from the sun. It can burn your skin with sulfuric acid. The planet is very poisonous. Cameron

Earth is the third planet from the sun. It is the only planet that has living things. It takes the Earth a year to travel around the sun. Ashley

Mars is red. The atmosphere of Mars is 100 times thinner than Earth’s. Destiny

Jupiter is the biggest planet in the solar system. 1,300 earths could fit inside Jupiter. A storm that is twice as wide as earth is the Great Red Spot. Alexis

Saturn Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun. It has many giant rings around it made of ice and rock. Kalil

Uranus gives off greenish light. It takes 84 years for Uranus to move around the sun. Luis

Neptune is cold and beautiful. Neptune is the twin of Uranus. Neptune has three rings around it. Neptune also has two moons, Triton and Nereid. Cayson Adkinson

Pluto is farther than any planet from the sun. It is smaller than any planet in our solar system. It is colder than any planet and it is made of ice and rock. Pluto is not a planet. Yansy

The Moon The moon is the brightest object in the night sky. It is made of rock. It travels around the world.
