e+e- Cross Sections Total cross section at 500 GeV ~10 pb 4M events for 500 fb -1

250 fb -1 SM Sample (no Higgs) Ordered # events in various processes (Erik) Total 292M events, after weighting 6265M

ee  everything 292M in 250 fb -1, average weight fb -1  12M events –Bhabha : 1.5M –ee  : 3M

250 fb -1 SM Higgs Only Ordered #events Total events

ZH (Yambazi) Jet Angle Plots Often have opening angle 180 degrees Main bkg ZZ* √s = 250 GeV √s = 500 GeV ν e+ e- H Z ν q q θ

ZH Main bkg ZZ* 250 fb -1 sample: –ee  qq: 2.4M events total, weighted 4.9M –ee  WW*: 4.4M events total, weighted 5.3M –ee  ZZ*: 2.0M events total, weight=1 100 fb -1  2.6M WW and ZZ events

How to estimate # events? Run analysis over full SM sample, plot favourite histogram, estimate # bkg events/fb -1, compare to signal Propose to process a 10 fb -1 sample of full SM bkg so analyses can determine main bkg in unbiased way – 12M events Estimate of CPU : 50 sec/ev
