How does it generate electricity?  the photoelectric effect refers to the release of electrons from the surface of metals in response to light  this means the energy contained within the light is absorbed by electrons that are in the metal, giving the electrons energy to be emitted from the surface of the metals  the energy from the electrons is what causes the electricity

Common Uses of This Source The main uses of photoelectric energy are:  Solar panels  Batteries (in calculators)  Outdoor lights  Flashlights

Advantages  it’s environmentally friendly  can save money in the long run  can last longer than battery power  lower maintenance

Disadvantages  less efficient in cloudy days  can be expensive to buy and install  pollution can ruin parts in solar panels  can cause power outages if the electrons get too much light
