Introduction: You will learn how frogs and toads are similar and how they are different. You will become familiar with the anatomy of a frog and a toad. You will learn about the life cycle of a frog (metamorphism).

 MST Standard 4- The students will understand and apply scientific concepts, principles, and theories pertaining to the physical setting and living environment and recognize the historical development of ideas in science.  MST Standard 5 – The students will apply technological knowledge and skills to design, construct, use, and evaluate products and systems to satisfy human and environmental needs.  ELA Standard 1 – Students will read, write, listen, and speak for information and understanding.  ELA Standard 3 - Students will read, write, listen, and speak for critical analysis and evaluation.  Art Standard 1 – Students will actively engage in the processes that constitute creation and performance in the arts (dance, music, theatre, and visual arts) and participate in various roles in the arts.  Art Standard 2 – Students will be knowledgeable about and make use of the materials and resources available for participation in the arts in various roles.

 Task 1: Preview and read slides and visit sites (resources).  Task 2: Venn Diagram –Toads/Frogs Task 3: Watch Life Cycle of a Frog Video Task 4: Life Cycle Project Task 5: Compare/Contrast Essay

 Task 1: Look through the next few slides and visit the sites listed (resources). Make sure that you READ the information on these sites! Don’t just look for the answers!  Task 2: Complete the Venn Diagram (Similarities/Differences between a frog and a toad.  Task 3: Become familiar with the life cycle by watching the video on the life cycle of a frog.  Task 4: Life Cycle Project- Create a replication of the life cycle of a frog. ( This could be a diagram, detailed picture, diorama, poster, presentation, etc.)  Task 5: Essay – Write a compare and contrast essay on toads and frogs. (Be sure to complete the Venn Diagram which will assist you in the writing of your essay.

The students will be graded on their writing assignment according to the previous rubric. The graphic organizer will also be evaluated to see that the information is accurate and completed. In addition to the criteria on the writing evaluation rubric, the students will be graded on whether or not they explained how a frog and toad differ. Their knowledge of the life cycle (metamorphism) of a frog will be seen in their replication of this process. The students will be graded on their use of technology by teacher observation (using time wisely, only visiting the sites provided, remaining on-task are some of the things that the teacher will look for.)

 From your research of the frog you should have learned the difference between a frog and a toad.  You should have learned about the life cycle of a frog and be able to list the steps of this cycle. Other animals and plans also complete life cycles; such as the butterfly.  Be sure to check out other web quests like this one to learn more about frogs or other science areas you would like to explore!
