Downside Producer is assigned by label Record deal attached is less favorable because the label found you and incurred costs All recoupable costs are the artists responsibility Material and musicians may be chosen for you

Upside Label interest Professional recording No out of pocket expenses Small advance for your effort You may shop the demo to other buyers May create a bidding war

Payback Artists signed by the label offering the demo deal must recoup all demo expenses in addition to recording costs of new CD. Outside labels must pay the demo costs to the original label. Usually with a markup.
