Director The Director’s position is in the Production/Toaster booth NOT on the broadcasting floor! The Director is responsible for/does the following: Communicate commands to the Floor Director via the Walkie-talkie (ONLY THROUGH WALKIE_TALKIE) Giving commands to the technical crew to effectively execute the show, including; Stand by’s, Takes, Cues Lining up & switching camera shots

Director NOTE:The Director should use the proper hand signals to convey what is needed to the Floor Director once the Quiet on the Set Command has been given. Put the dvd in into the dvd player – (see Mr. Seifert for instructions) Give tape to Instructor. NOTE:Entire Class does not leave until the Director has given the instructor the dvd.

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR – Toaster Operator The Technical Director’s position is in the Production/Toaster booth at the toaster Setting up a lower 3rd ID page for each talent, With the correct spelling and positioning. All talent ID’s must match Type and color scheme Edge Shadow Typeface Handling and switching of video sources during the show at the command of the director. Anticipate what is coming up, but DO NOT execute it until you get the cue. Set up and capture any clips and setting up Chroma key for both the Weather & Sport segments.

FLOOR DIRECTOR The Floor Director’s position is in the studio. Following commands of the director via walkie-talkie. Floor Director NEVER sits down Relay the stand by and cue commands to the talent, camera operators and prompters. When the director gives the stand by, physically go to give the stand by command to the talent, that way the talent knows which camera they will be on. Handle the problems in the studio during the show, such as swapping out old bad cords, or headsets, or mics Make sure Mic are turned on each day Handle the strike at the end of the day. Be sure the batteries are on the chargers and are charging. Make sure the blue light and the main overhead lights are off.

CAMERA OPERATOR The Camera Operator’s position is in the studio for ALL the cameras. Follow commands of the floor director continued

CAMERA OPERATOR Maintain good shot composition**, per the Floor Directors instructions (**Acceptable Shot Composition) Close up shots are to be shot mid-chest, centered, in focus, and with a bit of headroom. Camera operators should know this, but the DR or FD can make corrections to the shots. There should be no desk, script, or other talent in the shot. Medium-shots for sports and weather. Shoot looser than close up, for sports, keep them centered, but include the elbow area. For weather, bottom of shot should be just below the waistline but above the knees of the talent. Be aware of the headroom. Two Shots – both talents are evenly represented ion the frame. The shot needs adequate headroom, but not TOO MUCH. Be sure not to cut off the talent’s arms in the frame. When zooming in, be sure to tilt up as you zoom in and tilt down slowly when you are zooming out. The ZOOMS and TILTS need to be done slowly!

CAMERA OPERATOR Calibrate the zoom lens every time you change to a different shot, Zoom in, focus, zoom out, compose your shot Hold and maintain good shot composition as directed by the Floor Director. Keep both hands on the camera until you are given the clear command from the director. Make sure your camera is off and shut down properly at the end of the day. If your camera runs on a battery, make sure you disconnect it from the camera and attach it to one of the chargers properly. (The plug that runs to the camera must be unplugged, if the light is blinking the battery is charging)

AUDIO OPERATOR - Sound The Audio Operator’s position is in the Production/Toaster booth at the soundboard. Setting the levels for each talent position – by the channels and the gain switch Following cues from the director as when to execute audio functions Make sure all the channels are turned down

TELEPROMPTER OPERATOR The Teleprompter Operator’s position is in the studio at their assigned teleprompter/computer. Get the announcements off the school website Type the script into the teleprompter/computer

TELEPROMPTER OPERATOR Save the script under the date of the broadcast plus the segment (Ex. 9-5-main) in Shelton’s drop off folder Delete the previous days script, only after you have completed that day’s script Run through the script with the anchor(s) so all of you are familiar with the script

TELEPROMPTER OPERATOR Scroll through the script at the anchor’s pace. Keep the lines the talent is reading in the upper third of the screen, scrolling through the script at the anchor’s pace. Slow down, speed up as necessary

TALENT The Talent’s position is in the studio at their assigned news desk or position. Following cues from the floor director NO GUM, food, candy, etc

TALENT Keeping square to the camera that is on them Memorizing as much as possible of the script, reading from the teleprompter only when necessary. Use the name of the talent that you are tossing to Keep your scripts, arms and anything else out of the other talent’s camera shot

TALENT Give professional news read. NO SUSTAINED LAUGHTER. As talent you are the representative to the public of our station. TAKE IT SERIOUSLY If you make an mistake, Apologize Correct the mistake Move on

Talent Requirements for the Daily Broadcast What you as an Anchor must do: Main Anchors: each main anchor is responsible for “adding” 1 pieces of some type of HARD NEWS to the script. (One per day 1+1 = 2 per broadcast) At least one must be school related MUST have a picture (jpg) for the toaster This can be done with some general news from either the internet or a newspaper (reliable sources only) Ex.Accident, Election, Upcoming or Prior event, etc. Use tween tribune website for things

Talent Requirements for the Daily Broadcast Sports Anchors each sports anchor is responsible for “adding” 1 pieces of some type of sport news to the script. (One per day 1+1 = 2 per broadcast) This can be done by giving scores or data on a played or upcoming game other than an Anchor Bay Schools team (MUST include a picture {jpeg} for the toaster) Ex.NHL, NFL, NBA, Olympics, etc.

ALL POSITIONS No Food, Pop, Candy, Gum, etc. – only water is allowed. You will be told to get rid of (throw out) if it is seen by the instructor or the Para-Pro (see point deduction below) The broadcast is a group effort, everyone needs to work together to create a good broadcast 10 Points per broadcast, no show / not able broadcast, no points {Total 50 points per week} If a student is absent, it is the students responsibility to retrieve the announcements off the website and write an entire script (including outsides) to make up for the absence. The script is due one day after the absence. (Example: Absent Monday script due on Wednesday)

ALL POSITIONS Points will be deducted from the 10 points per broadcast for the following: Tardy –2 Excused Absence -5 Unexcused Absence – 10 Not prepared (no contribution piece, not ready when commands given, etc.) -2 to -4 (for each incident) Not on task (for each incident)–2 Not at station (for each incident) –2 Talking after “Quiet on the set” Command has been given-4 Gum (food, pop, etc.)- 4 Disruptive or uncooperative –2 to 10 points Depending on behavior, infraction, etc. Other –5 to –10 points Depending on behavior, infraction, etc.
