QUESTION OF THE DAY Define nationalism and imperialism. How do you think these concepts relate to World War I?.

WORLD WAR I

WHAT MAKES WORLD WAR I UNIQUE?

It is the first “global war” Over 30 countries declare war; more involved indirectly.

It is the first “total war” Nearly all aspects of life are affected for all citizens—not just soldiers and members of government. Governments take over economy and use propaganda to persuade citizens to support war. What is propaganda?

It is the first “modern war” Use of new technology such as airplanes, zeppelins, machine guns, armored tanks, poison gas; and trench warfare on a larger scale.

COOL DOWN List one feature which makes World War I unique in comparison to wars before it.
