State Test Results MSP/HSPE/EOC Presentation to the Shelton School District Board of Directors September 10, 2013

Comparison to State This presentation will compare the Shelton School District scores to those of students across the state Not an “average” – compares the percent of SSD who meet standard to percent of all students in the state who met standard on the tests Our challenge: 66.3% of students in SSD are eligible for F/R meals while 46.1% of students are eligible statewide – when our scores top state scores our kids are beating the odds!

Third Grade Reading Increased from 60.2% in 2012 to 64.1% in 2013 Statewide scores increased from 68.8% to 73.0%

Fourth Grade Reading Increased from 65.9% in 2012 to 66.7% in 2013 Statewide scores increased from 71.5% to 72.4%

Reading Highlights Reading scores have improved slightly at each grade level, with the exception of 7 th and 8 th The district reading scores mirror state trends (up at grades 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10 and down at grades 7, 8) There is still a fairly substantial gap between district and state reading scores at grades 3 and 5 (this is an area for further study)
